Living Healthy - Oxygen Producing Plants

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

A thought occured to me that I might add a plant to my room to ensure I have plenty of oxygen. The door to my room is often closed so I have no doubt that this would help - perhaps a lot, perhaps a little. Since I wanted to find out which plant(s) might be best for such a thing, I figured I’d browse the internet a bit. Perhaps I should have tried Wikipedia first (although, looking at these search results, I might have been there a while), but as an old habit I started my search in Google.

Peculiar hive evolution? - What if

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

First of all, here’s what I mean by hive in this document (X is my own interpretation - for this post only):
1. a shelter constructed for housing a colony of honeybees; beehive.
2. the colony of bees inhabiting a hive.
4. a place swarming with busy occupants: a hive of industry.
X. Any group of insects bound together in one ‘pack’, serving under a queen.

The grass is always greener… isn’t it?

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

For those of you that don’t know it, there’s an expression in english that goes “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”. The literal explanation is that a neighbor’s garden always looks better. The thought behind it is that you’ll always feel what you have is less than what your neighbor (or someone you know) has. In other words, you see the positive things about someone else’s life, and compare it to the negative things in your own life, so that theirs seems better in comparison. In theory - assuming you feel like this all the time, and not just sporadically - this would prevent you from attaining any sort of happiness.

Dog’s Hair

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I was lying there, watching TV, petting my dog, when I started to inspect my dog’s skin and the hair that came out of it. Yes, I’m weird like that. I noticed how a single pore could have multiple hairs… But every pore on my body, that I can see (like my arms and legs) only has a single hair coming out of it. I can’t tell from my head, forcing my eyes to focus closely on it hurts and doesn’t get me enough detail to tell. Of course, in retrospect, it makes sense doesn’t it… A dog has loads of hair (sure loses enough of it), and it’s not like he’ll grow extra pores. Just another one of those little things that you never think about but turns out to be surprising.

pore - noun
1. a tiny opening in the skin, for perspiration (sweating), absorption, etc.

By the way, my dog is a yellow labrador, about 3/4 pedigree, in case your dog doesn’t have this.

Sky City - The Future?

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Apparently some guys got the idea to build a huge Sky City - three connected mega towers, including a stadium - to help combat urban crowding. To me it just sounds like they’re shifting the problem upwards (it’s still a whole lot of people in a small place, isn’t it?), but damn that looks cool. True, it would be interesting to see whether people would become disconnected with the world (if you have everything in your own little tower city (possibly even an airport!), why would you ever leave? Would you care what happens on the outside?). There are a plethora of questions about whether humanity could handle such a living situation but at the end of the day… That’s one incredibly sweet idea they came up with :D
